The European SME Week is a pan-European campaign that aims to promote entrepreneurship in Europe. It helps existing entrepreneurs find information on available support and tries to encourage more people to set up their own businesses. Coordinated by the European Commission, this campaign consists of events throughout the whole year. The main event of the European SME Week is organized every autumn together with the SME Assembly and the European Enterprise Promotion Awards Ceremony.
Main objectives of the SME Week are as follows:
- To inform entrepreneurs about support available at EU, national, regional, and local level.
- To encourage more people to become entrepreneurs.
KOSGEB is the national coordinator of the European SME Week. Turkey has been the country to organise the most number of events for each SME Week since 2009.
More than 1200 activities took place within its the scope, of which 21 took place in Turkey. of the 1" SME Week. 21 activities from Turkey take place on the European SME Week Web page. In 2010, the 2nd European SME Week was held and more than 1 500 events were organised under the umbrella of the European SME Week. In Turkey with some 103 events were organized, making it the 3rd most active country after the United Kingdom (164) and Germany (118).
From 3 to 9 October 2011, The 3rd edition of the European SME Week took place from 3 to 9 October 2011,. It focused on business transfers and a second chances for entrepreneurs. During the SME Week, Turkey organized 593 events, making it the most active contributor out of the 37 participating countries.
KOSGEB is the Coordinator of SME Week in Turkey and TURKEY is the most important player at EU SME Week from the begining. In 2017 out of 318 activities organized in the scope of the Week, 150 of them have been held in Turkey.
